Abstract: Topology has become one of commonly used tools in data science since last few years. This mini-course on “Topology in Data Science” consists of two lectures.

  In the first lecture, we will give an overview of topological data analysis.  After giving a brief review on Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, we will highlight various applications of topology in frontier sciences and technologies. Finally we will talk the mathematical ideas of topological data analysis.

  In the second lecture, we will talk our recent research on a generalization of the current topological methodologies in data analytics. We will introduce the notion of super persistent homology. This new notion leads to a uniform topological approach to data science, which removes the distance hypothesis of current persistent homology so that it can be a suitable topological tool for both pointed cloud data and graphical data. The new topological approach might lead to applications to data analytics on social networks on finance, economics and management.
