On Oct 8th, 2019, CARSI (CERNET Authentication and Resource Sharing Infrastructure) completed the migration of old and new versions successfully.
CARSI（CERNET Authentication and Resource Sharing Infrastructure，https://www.carsi.edu.cn） is initiated by Peking University. Serving for Chinese universities, colleges, schools, and research institutes, it is a resource sharing infrastructure to support member organization users to access shared application resources with their campus network identities at any time, in any place, with any internet way so as to break through the restrictions that some resources can only be visited from some specific IP addresses and to support faculty and students to acquire teaching, researching and living resources in a more economical, convenient and efficient way.
On May 24th, 2019, CARSI was voted to be an eduGAIN participant which is a Global Identity Federation operated by GEANT, Europe. That means the global resource sharing for Chinese universities would be much easier. The system upgrading is indispensable to meet eduGAIN requirements, to standardize the management and to automate the operation. On Jun 27th, CARSI new version was published online. The upgrading includes:
a. CARSI legacy IdPs upgrade the software and re-register in the new online helpdesk system https://mgmt.carsi.edu.cn.
b. CARSI legacy SPs re-register in the new online helpdesk system https://mgmt.carsi.edu.cn.
Until Oct 8th, 8 universities are online and 17 universities are technically debugging. Five of the seven legacy SPs are online which includes EBSCO, EMERALD, IEEE, RSC and SPRINGER NATURE. CLARIVATE and ELSEVIER are under discussion. CALIS (China Alliance of Library Information System), CNKI, PARATERA are in technical debug. Some other services for example DINGDING, BaiduCloud are kept in touch.
It is hoped that through the upgrade, more educational and scientific research resources at home and abroad would be introduced into CERNET to share more valuable services to university faculty and students.
